I was at a camp when I heard about the war between Israel and Hamas.  This skirmish should come as no surprise to believers because the conflict is written in the Bible.  The unrest will continue despite President Obama’s best efforts.  The peace will only happen albeit temporarily when the Beast (of Revelation) or King of the North (Daniel 11) strikes a covenant.  This covenant will assure the world of a false peace and will signal the start of the Tribulation (Daniel 9:23-24).  While the US plays a major role today in the peace talks it will soon find itself on the outside looking in.  Someone new will step in and be able to do what no other nation could do.

This individual will use his new found fame to capture the attention of the world.  The Tribulation will be a turbulent time to say the least.  However, the Beast will grow in popularity until all the world recognizes him and worships him.  The ironic part is the message that the new atheism espouses about the end of Faith.  I have been amazed by how they evolutionist and humanist alike can speak of the end of God with confidence and yet ignore what is happening right before their eyes.  Say what you will, disagree with me but there is an unrest in the Middle East and in Russia, that should make the world take note and pause.  As the old saying goes, “There are no atheist in foxholes.”  Everyone believes or exercises faith in something.  Now that faith may be in science.  Those who exercise their faith in science feel comfortable because they believe they have the facts or at least smarter people in their corner.  The god of atheism is the god called self.  Or as Richard Dawkins might put it, “The selfish Gene.”  Nevertheless, despite this new atheism the world will exercise faith and put that faith in the Beast of Revelation.  It will be a fatal mistake.

When will all these events take place?  They are beginning to happen, but the next event on God’s time table is the Rapture of His church (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17).  Afterwards the covenant with Israel will be signed.

What do we do now?  Put your faith in Jesus for eternal life (John 6:47).  You do not need to join a church or get baptized in order to be saved.  You simply need to believe in the Son (Acts 16:30-31).

CNN reported that rockets have landed near two of Israel’s most populated cities.  The fighting since Wednesday has let 24 dead and 270 wounded.   The attack was from Hamas militants.  Hamas is a political party that governs the Gaza Strip.  Wikipedia stated that their “1988 charter calls for the replacement of Israel and the Palestinian Territories with an Islamic Palestinian state.”

What does this recent event mean?  There has never been any rest in the Middle-East since I have been alive.  I am sure some will observe what is going on and think nothing of it.  However, this conflict has been escalating and now that the United States has been lukewarm as to their involvement the stage is being seemingly set for the Antichrist to rise up and offer a false peace.

Daniel 9:27 says, “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week…”  The he goes back to verse 26 and the phrase “And the people of prince who is to come…”  The prince to come is the Antichrist or The Beast.  The first 3 1/2 years this covenant will be honored but then he will break it.  Also please remember that the Tribulation will not begin until the covenant is signed.  The Rapture can happen at any moment.

What does this mean for us today?  This conflict is the beginning of a possible all out war.  I would not be surprised at all if Russia were to get involved.   I make that assumption because Russia has been helping Iran and for some reason they seem to be persistent in wanting to have some sort of stake in the Middle-East.  Why?  Probably because they want to be in on the oil that is plentiful in the Middle-East.  Is Russia Gog and Magog?  I lean towards that view.  For a time it looked like Russia would never be a world power any more in the ’90s, however, now they are beginning to assert themselves once again.  Even with all that is happening in the Middle-East, the next thing on God’s timetable is the Rapture.  As Revelation says, “Behold I come quickly…”  May our Lord come back for us quickly.

Western Wall in Jerusalem

We live in a day and age where it is peace and security which seems very attainable.  The war on Terror seems to be grinding to a halt.  However, things in the Middle-East have not grinded to a halt at all.  The unrest in the Middle-East, should cause us to look to see what God is doing or going to do.

In Revelation 6:2, the first seal judgment, a white horse is released the rider of this white horse is the Antichrist.  He is given a crown, which implies he is given rule and he rules by conquering.  Daniel 11:40-45 tells us that the King of the South attacks the King of the North.  The King of the South is identified as Egypt and the King of the North is the Antichrist.  It is hard to write who will be the major players in the Middle-East at the time of the end, however, Egypt will be force that the Antichrist will put down.

In an article by the Frenso Bee on June 28, 2012 Cal Thomas stated, “Iran continues its nuclear weapons program and threatens to wipe the “Zionist entity” off the map.  Russian President Vladimir Putin visits Israel and urges Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to attack Iran, to which Russia has been providing nuclear technology.”  The stage for an attack on Israel is already being set.  However, in the Tribulation the whole world is seen coming against Israel.  Iran and Russia’s friendship is setting the stage for Gog and Magog of Ezekiel 38 and 39.  In the same article it was stated that Mohammed Morsi, Egypt’s new president, was at a rally where a cleric stated that, “Our capital shall be Jerusalem, Allah willing.”   In looking at bible prophecy from Daniel 11 it could be possible that in the beginning of the Tribulation the Antichrist protects Israel from Egypt’s attack.  It is a thought that is worth looking into more.
